This story is a saga of sorts...My husband Jeff has always wanted a miniature donkey on the farm.  So we all decided (my two children Kurt and Brittany and our close friends Jerry and Libby Forstner) that it would be fun to surprise Jeff with a miniature donkey for Christmas this year (2016).  So the hunt began...and we all spent the better part of a month trying to find something perfect for him, something young that he could grow with, and something very sweet and lovable.  After all, we were ALL going to be loving on the new addition!!  We had zero luck finding one...everyone was sold out.  One farm, Red Gate Miniature Donkeys, had one female that was still yet to deliver so we put ourselves on a waiting list to be called immediately when the newborn arrived.  Christmas came and went...no calls.  On January 1, 2017 we received a phone call letting us know that Cricket (the pregnant jennet) had delivered a beautiful little rare spotted jennet named "Bella".

We all thought, fantastic, Jeff's birthday is in February so she will be a great birthday present!!  The kids and I visited the farm to meet the owners of the farm and meet "Bella" and it was love, and purchase, at first sight.  We couldn't wait until his birthday though as we were ALL (Jerry and Libby included) busting at the seams with excitement.  So Jeff and I went back and visited Bella together and the love affair with donkeys truly began.  We purchased Cricket as well so that we could bring Bella home early and enjoy her "baby months" and shortly thereafter purchased three more pregnant jennets and their only black spotted jack (Kodiak) left on their farm after a decision was made by them to retire due to personal health reasons.  Scott and Teresa had been in the donkey business for over 20 years so we were delighted to be able to purchase our new "miniature donkey" herd from one very loving and very dedicated breeding farm.

It wasn't until Mother's Day of this year, 2017, that we were blessed with a beautiful little rare black jennet we now affectionately called Black Pearl.  They told us that we should imprint them with love and attention right away so that they would be friendly.  NO PROBLEM, I said!!  Black Pearl is currently in the process of being loved to death by all who meet her!
