Some really exciting (and surprising) things happened this year as we found ourselves feeling very blessed with a great show season in 2017.  We traveled to the 2017 National Show in Denver, Colorado with some of our best animals and our alpacas were awarded several champion banners and top placements in their respective classes, the competition was tough and the classes were large and we were very proud of our placements there and proud to be at such an event among the industry's best breeding programs..  One of the most surprising things (to me) was that we were awarded the Large Breeders Heritage Cup for the BEST large breeder!!!  By definition, we didn't even realize we could even compete in the large breeder category but based on the number of animals we took and their respective placements and how well we did overall, we received the 2017 AOA Heritage Cup, something we certainly never even dreamed of doing.  Feeling so blessed, honored, excited...all of the above!!

On top of that, some of my fellow alpaca breeders and the AOA Board of Directors, awarded me, Faye Farley, to be one of the shining stars of the alpaca industry.  I kept feeling like somehow they had got it wrong...that somehow I wasn't good enough or hadn't worked hard enough to ever receive such an amazing and special award.  But they said they didn't get it wrong, that I was nominated by several people and the AOA Board was unanimous in supporting me receiving the award!!  I was beyond shocked, beyond words humbled, and so touched and grateful that anyone had even thought enough of me to nominate me for this kind of award.  I'm still in shock and was speechless when my name was called to receive this award.  It's an amazing feeling when people give you a standing ovation...and I have to say it brought me to tears and had me feeling overwhelmed and speechless.  I am truly so thankful to be involved in an industry I absolutely love surrounded by people who have made such an impact and a difference in my life over the last 20 years that I've been in the alpaca business.  The alpaca business...the alpaca people in this business...have changed my life and my world in ways that go beyond the business aspect of owning and raising alpacas.  I am so thankful for this business and for alpaca friends who are truly like family to me.  Blessed, grateful, humbled, honored, touched and moved to tears...oh, yes, all of the above!
