Alpacas usually range from 100 to 200 pounds.

An alpaca’s coat can be shades of black, brown, gray, fawn, beige, white or multi-colored.

Alpacas have no top front teeth.

Alpacas can produce a soft hum as a form of communication (some might even say they hum because they don’t know the words).

Alpacas also communicate through neck posturing, ear and tail positioning, and head tilting.

Alpacas have excellent eyesight and hearing and will alert the herd and their human keepers of perceived danger with a staccato alarm call.

Alpacas rarely spit but will do so if frightened or abused. They also spit at each other to express displeasure.

Alpacas are social herd animals and enjoy companionship.
